The Dutch Connemara Pony Breeder's Society was founded
in 1967. The Society consists of approximately 150 members and donors.
The Society's members own performance ponies, breeding mares, youngsters
and around 20 licensed stallions. Since its foundation, the Society
has registered more than 3000 ponies.
The
Connemara is named after the mountainous district on the west coast
of Ireland that is bordered by two lakes. In this area people have
been breeding horses for ages (more than one thousand years). The
modern Connemara is descended from this breeding.
The Connemara is an ideal performance pony in all
kinds of disciplines, e.g. dressage, show jumping, eventing, driving
and endurance and since several years has also been used for Western
riding
The successful breeding, using quality mares and
stallions, has resulted in ponies that perform at an international
level in show jumping and three-day-eventing.
With a height of 1.33 - 1.48 meters (sometimes
taller), the Connemara is a perfect fit for both children and adults.
Due to its friendly character and pleasant temperament, this pony
is ideal for the whole family, both for performance and recreation.
